Another Dubai: 9 abandoned places that guides in the UAE will not show you

One of the most expensive cities in the world, Dubai, is the most important trading and financial center of all the UAE. Prestigious companies seek to open their offices here, expensive supercars drive through the streets, and luxurious yachts cut through the water. However, even here, where the cash flow seemed to flow in a raging river, large-scale abandoned projects exist. Both within the city and beyond, you can see a huge number of villas that no one buys, and they just left to rot and collapse.

But until oil was discovered in Dubai, the majority of Bedouins lived here, they raised goats and camels, and raised dates. Due to its proximity to the sea, the city had the opportunity to trade with Europe. And only when, in 1966, oil reserves were discovered 60 nautical miles from the coast, the life of the city began to change dramatically. Sheikh Rashid ibn Saeed Al Maktoum, who ruled at that time, knew very well what Dubai needed for success. He built an excellent runway and began to actively develop infrastructure. When petrodollars poured into the emirate, all the efforts of the sheikh fully paid off. And so, over 10 years, Dubai has flourished, and the number of people living here has increased by 300 percent.

Today, cash flow continues to flow through this amazing city on the shores of the Persian Gulf, only the luxurious facade began to crack, expensive lining sprinkled in places, and now we can see Dubai as it is without “makeup” - a soulless city thrown on tearing apart the sands.

Jebel Ali Village, Jebel Ali Village

A luxury suburb called Jebel Ali Village appeared outside Dubai in 1977. It was planned to build about 300 luxury villas, a park, hospitals and other infrastructure, but in fact it turned out that the location for the residential area was chosen poorly. As a result, there was an acute shortage of grocery stores, and few people agreed to go to Dubai for essential goods. So by 2011, the territory of Jebel Ali Village was completely empty.

Skyscraper Burj Al Alam

The Burj al-Alam skyscraper on the territory of Business Bay in Dubai, according to the project, should have 108 floors. Its construction began in 2008, but all that was done before the project was suddenly closed due to the crisis was to drive the piles.

World Islands Juzur al-Alam

The archipelago of the islands of Juzur al-Alam is copying a map of the world. All the islands were already completed (60 percent of them were even sold out, and they managed to build houses on several), when in 2008 the developer froze all the work, and the facility is still idle abandoned.

Ocean liner "Queen Elizabeth II"

The huge liner Queen Elizabeth II of 1967 was about to retire when it was acquired by Dubai World, which wanted to make it a floating hotel. At that time, the new owners of the old ship did not think about how serious and unique problems await them, because nothing like this could have arisen in an ordinary building. In short, the ubiquitous mold spread very quickly along the ocean liner and everything inside was beginning to rot and fall apart. So the ship was left in Port Rashid.
