Photographer takes silence in Japan

More than 10 years ago, the bride (and now wife) of the Japanese art photographer Yasuhiro Ogawa studied in Shanghai, because of which a man often had to be in this huge, ever-moving, noisy metropolis. It was then that he felt a special love and affection for his native Tokyo. According to Ogawa, despite the fact that the Japanese capital is also difficult to call quiet, yet the noise in it is not at all as oppressive and annoying as in Shanghai.

At that time, the photographer came up with and created a wonderful photo project about the silence and pacification of his native city, which he called “Tokyo Silence”. Ogawa notes that the main difference between Shanghai and Tokyo is that the Japanese behave calmly and speak very quietly: on the streets, the sounds of cars, music from cafes and advertisements are not complemented by the loud chatter of passers-by, as is the case in the Chinese metropolis. This silent, "introverted" character of the Japanese capital sought to convey the photographer in his works.
