New Geographic Publication Released with Cover Shaking the Public

National Geographic Magazine launched the very important and truly catchy Planet or Plastic information campaign. And we all have to see it.

Many people know that there is too much plastic in the world now. We all feel a little guilty when we throw another plastic bag into the trash, knowing that we are contributing to a problem that is so enormous that we cannot even realize it. But what if we were confronted with the terrifying consequences of mindless use of plastic face to face?

One of the goals of the famous magazine’s campaign is to change the way consumers use plastic. If consumers and like-minded organizations can work together to change their thinking at a fundamental level, large corporations may react to public opinion and reduce the amount of plastic in the products they produce. The magazine itself, setting an example, began to send out its numbers wrapped in paper, not plastic. National Geographic says plastic bags, bottles and straws are the most common and problematic products. The publication urges its readers to commit themselves to drastically reduce their use by making a simple informed choice.

Powerful, heartbreaking photos demonstrate the damage that 9 million tons of plastic waste each year bring to our planet and its wildlife. Scientists and researchers of the magazine hope to fill the gaps in knowledge about the long-term effects of plastic, because it decomposes into microscopic particles, which ultimately fall into our food chain. They also seek to better understand and study the path that plastic travels from land to the very depths of the ocean.

"For 130 years, National Geographic has documented the history of our planet, providing viewers around the world with a window to observe the breathtaking beauty of the earth, as well as the threats that the world faces."says Gary Nell, CEO of National Geographic Partners.

"Every day, our researchers, experts and photographers testify to the destructive effects of disposable plastic on the oceans, and the situation is becoming increasingly terrible."

“With the Planet or Plastic initiative, we’ll tell stories about this growing crisis, how to solve it with the latest scientific developments, and educate audiences around the world on how to remove disposable plastic and prevent it from entering our oceans.”
