White Heron Castle

Himeji Castle - one of the oldest preserved Japanese castles, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, was nicknamed the "White Heron Castle" for its snow-white walls and towers, as well as for the elegance and special polished shapes. Built in the middle of the XIV century, during the Muromachi period, rebuilt at the beginning of the XVII century by the clan of the military leader Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Beautiful from the outside from any angle and in any weather, it is just as dull inside: no interiors, bare wooden walls and floors, polished by the swollen feet of thousands of tourists. You won’t really make a shot even from the top floor of the main tower: the smartphone’s lens still creeps through the grill, the camera’s lens is gone.

Well, why grumble. The castle is really beautiful and worth a visit! Do not miss the castle garden, located a little to the side - it is no less beautiful there, as, in fact, in most of these Japanese gardens.
