A man built a house in the mountains of Alaska and lived there happy 30 years all alone

Today is our story about a very unusual person whose fortitude will delight anyone. His name is Richard Lewis Proenneke. When he retired, the first thing he went to a remote place was Twin Lakes in the mountains. Near the lake, he built himself a small hut from felled trees and began to equip his life. While construction was underway, Richard lived in the hut of his acquaintances, which was not very far from the place he had chosen for his own home. Sometimes, flying by, the friend of the pilot visited his hermit, he brought him supplies and necessary things.

Having lived alone with nature for more than a year, the man nevertheless decided to return to the city to visit his relatives and purchase everything he needed. But for a long time he did not stop there. Richard came to his new home in the mountains and did not leave him for the next 30 years.

Being a self-taught naturalist, the American watched nature, took metrological notes, and also filmed his hermit life and what is happening around. Over the years, in Twin Lakes, he has edited several films dedicated to his stay here. The most famous of them is "Alone in the Wild."

The once-experienced severe illness made him aware of the importance of maintaining his body in a healthy state. And the first year of his life far from civilization was supposed to be a test of his strength and survival skills. However, this changed him so much that he no longer wanted to return to his former life. As a result, Richard lived in a self-built house with a fireplace and a roof of green moss, until he was 82 years old.

Then his health gradually began to fail him, and experiencing the terrible local frosts became harder and harder. He was forced to leave for California. After 4 years, Richard Pronenek died of a stroke, but still continues to remain on the list of the most famous hermits in the country.
