The artist makes incredibly realistic sculptures of pets from a tree

Gerard Mas - a sculptor from Barcelona who creates absolutely incredible, very realistic sculptures of animals from wood. The wide wooden plates in his hands are gradually turning into dogs and cats, which is difficult to distinguish from real ones at first glance. To add color to his creations, Mas burns the surface of the tree, giving it a deep charcoal color. The only thing that gives out the lifelessness of pets is their stillness on their pedestals, which are an integral part of the sculpture.

Masu works flawlessly that invites the viewer to a visual game and open interpretation. His sculptures are playful, not devoid of humor and strikingly naturalistic. For example, the statue of a French bulldog named Guardian leads to joking comments about the size of these dogs and their involvement in the type of guard dogs. Or the Siamese cat, signed as "Schrödinger's Cat" refers us to the famous thought experiment by physicist Erwin Schrödinger.
