The only city on Earth whose entire population lives in one house

The fantasies of modern architects in the construction of buildings are unlimited. For example, a crooked house in the city of Sopot in Poland was built without right angles, and a stone house in the mountains of Portugal was equipped by a man right among the huge boulders created by the enchantress nature. Another interesting building can be found in the north-east of the Alaska Peninsula. Here, among the majestic mountains, wild forests and glaciers, is the city of Whittier, consisting of only one single house. In the post-war period, this building belonged to the naval base, which is located in an ice-free deep-water bay. Next to the 14-story high-rise building there used to be private houses of local residents, but in 1964 they were all badly affected by the tsunami. Waves reaching 13 meters turned the town into real ruins. The high-rise building was quickly restored, however, what happened forced the military to find another place for themselves. As a result, local citizens settled in the empty building.

However, the skyscraper is not only the place of residence of the whole city, a whole infrastructure is arranged inside it. For example, there is a police station, clinic, church, gym, library and other necessary institutions. According to the latest census, 220 people live here. Since the military left, much, of course, has been changed and improved; beauty salons and various shops have opened.

For local students, a warm tunnel has been laid to the very educational institution, which is very convenient, given how much the snowy or rainy weather is here. By land to the city, you can only drive through a paid 3-kilometer tunnel, trains also run there. Active residents give excursions to travelers who have come here and even invite them to stay in comfortable rooms furnished from several apartments.
