Residents of the mountainous province of Sagada believe: the higher the body of a deceased is “buried” above the earth, the closer his soul is to paradise. Therefore, for 2.5 thousand years, local residents have been burying their loved ones in coffins, attached with ropes to limestone rocks. This sight looks very, very creepy. Especially when a chair is also tied to a rock near the coffin, on which the deceased sat shortly before his death.
