Sabaudia: my Italian vacation

Sabaudia, my vacation "refuge" from year to year, is considered "left" and snobbish. No wonder: once it was an exclusive "refuge" of elite tourists. It’s a joke to say that beaches are 150 (!) Km long!

Every summer, the legendary ex-captain of the Italian football team Roma Francesco Totti with his wife Ilari Blazi and children with exotic names comes here ... They simply chase a ball on the beach, sign autographs and take pictures left and right :)

And also Sabaudia - these are expensive villas and "summer houses" built "out of law". Or here is the chic villa of Countess Volpi in the neoclassical style, located right on the beach, put up for sale for 20 million euros. And in the hands of the commune more than 4,000 requests for the "regularization" of illegally erected dwellings.

Sabaudia is called mysterious, mysterious and charming. It was built in just a year (even to be completely accurate, in 253 days - as the commemorative inscription carved on the bell tower in the center of the city), and many government agencies in my favorite laconic style still stand and look great.

Sabaudia has everything: the sea, dunes, the lake, the famous Circeo mountain (named after the goddess Circe, because, as the locals are sure, the outlines of the mountain resemble a female profile) - but there is no train that could get to all this splendor ... Still to go and go from the nearest railway station - taxis need to be reserved in advance, but there is no hope for buses.

What is more remarkable Sabaudia?

There is a huge national park that stretches from Sabaudia to San Felice: from there no, no and even a wild boar jumps out onto the road (all in the pits). One friend once told me that he was returning from the party on foot - the tipsy friends just forgot about him. So, he walked quietly and peacefully along the road, and this same boar attacked him. He sobered up in fright, climbed a tree and from there began to call the carabinieri and parents, they say, take me away from here. True, catching the network on that road is not as easy as it seems: in the end, the carabinieri arrived and drove the frightened kid to his parents.

And in Sabaudia there are a lot of Hindus - they settled here for a long time, settled down, got bicycles and even built their own temple, where they regularly go to pray on weekends in clean turbans. Local Italians say that Indians take good care of animals. More recently, Nigerians have appeared here - 15 hours a day under the scorching sun, they collect tomatoes from nearby plantations at a reasonable price of 3 euros per hour of work.

And here there is a picturesque market on Thursdays, my favorite shop of silver trinkets and a bakery where they make the best fried “bombs” with mind-blowing cream and huge croissants for four, which, if desired, can also be filled with cream or Nutella ...!
