Atlantic road in Norway - the best tourist road in the country

There are roads that play the sole role of an infrastructure facility, and there are absolutely amazing structures that are designed to delight and surprise. The Atlantic road in Norway, which is rightfully considered the best tourist road in the country, is just one of such projects.

The Atlantic Road is an integral part of the national tourist road, which is located in the western part of Norway on the Atlantic coast. A road with a length of just over 8 kilometers connects small picturesque islands and includes 12 bridges. The most famous of them is the Storsezandet bridge, which has an unusual curved shape and a height of 23 meters so that sea vessels can pass under it.

The construction of the Atlantic Hailstorm began in the summer of 1983, and the grand opening took place 6 years later. Initially, travel on it was paid, but 10 years after the road paid for the construction costs, it was made free. Especially for tourists, observation platforms with convenient parking lots are equipped here, from where a breathtaking view of the ocean, the surrounding islands and marine inhabitants opens, among which you can even see whales. Some parts of the road are very low, so during strong winds the road surface literally covers with sea waves. But during a severe storm, it is better to refrain from traveling along the Atlantic Road, because you can easily end up in the water.

In 2006, this picturesque track was named the best tourist road in the country, and a year earlier the Atlantic Road received the title “Norway Century Building”.
