The guy went for a dog walk, and found huge traces of a bird in the river, and they are millions of years old

Going for a walk, we do not expect to stumble upon something important, valuable or unusual. Perhaps if we were more attentive to what was happening around, the chance that this would happen would increase significantly. At least, this was the conclusion New Yorker Michael Johnson made after his recent discovery. And he discovered nothing more than the huge traces of a prehistoric bird that had been stored for thousands of years at the bottom of the river.

The guy says that he was just walking with dogs when he accidentally noticed something like a bird’s footprint in the water. When he came closer, it became clear that there was more than one track and he clearly belonged to someone very large. However, then Michael did not attach much importance to this, but simply photographed them on the phone to somehow show the employees of the local museum.

To his surprise, the museum was extremely excited about the find. The man was told that this is a very important discovery and they need to see everything for themselves. Soon, serious excavations were launched on the river: workers began to pump out water and carefully remove fossilized footprints to deliver them to the museum. Their size was 30 by 30 centimeters.

They belong to the flightless bird moa. These huge wingless creatures became extinct 1.5 thousand years ago, and weighed about 250 kilograms.

Michael says that he did not expect his walk to turn into such a discovery. However, henceforth it is going to be even more careful so that by chance not to miss anything interesting.
