Antarctica of the past: spectacular photos of the land of ice taken at the beginning of the 20th century

Antarctica is a huge continent, the center of which coincides with the south pole of our planet. This country of ice and severe cold was discovered at the beginning of the 19th century by a Russian expedition, and the name Antarctica comes from the Greek word meaning literally "opposite to the north". This continent does not belong to any country and there are no residents at all. Unless scientists and various researchers have to periodically stay here for a while.

With the opening of such an amazing place, every country sought to get here, to conduct its research, to make discoveries. Gradually, the territory of Antarctica was divided into geographical areas, named after their discoverers. In the 20th century, the number of expeditions to the sixth continent began to grow. Researchers from different countries literally one after another organized expeditions here. Among them was the Australian Frank Hurley, a photographer and just an adventurer. Now we can see his pictures of Antarctica, taken in the period from 1912 to 1915.
